Opportunities to serve

Garre Outreach in Moyale
Full Term
Kenya

The Moyale Garre Ministry, in partnership with the AIC Moyale church, is looking for one or two individuals or couples who have on-field experience and a passion to do evangelism and discipleship among an unreached people group.
The Garre, a Borana-speaking sub-tribe of the Somali people, are unengaged - and we hope to change that with God's help. They are primarily pastoralists grazing their herds of camels, cattle, goats and sheep wherever they can find water and pasture.
The town of Moyale is located in Marsabit County, northern Kenya. The town is located on the border with Ethiopia and is the primary border crossing between the two countries.
The main tasks for the missionary would be to learn the Borana language and develop an outreach plan for the Garre.
There will be countless gospel-sharing opportunities through language and culture learning, building relationships and many more.

Desired experience and qualifications:
The best fit for this ministry is a missionary who has been involved in outreach before, and preferably to Somali people.
We require that the missionary have at least 2 terms of service in Africa.
Prior work among the Somali or other strict Muslim group is desired.
A college degree is required for the sake of processing work permits.
Training in Muslim outreach is strongly desired.
Missionaries will be expected to have a Level 2 (medium) in Borana by the end of the term of at least 2 years.
Some knowledge of Swahili is also helpful both in Moyale and in travel back and forth in Kenya.
